Casey Saunders was an incredible guy. He was always kind, present, passionate, and going out of his way to help others. His mission was to leave the world a better place, constantly finding little ways to pay it forward. After his passing, friends, family, and teammates found themselves saying, “I wish I could be more like Casey!” The Casey Saunders Foundation was launched by his loved ones to keep Casey’s legacy alive.
Casey began racing at 15, and slowly worked his way up to compete with professional cyclists with the Dogfish Racing Team. His passion for bikes was apparent in both his racing and his job as a bicycle mechanic at Big Shark Bicycle Company.
The Foundation exists to help youth discover what they love to do, encouraging and promoting cycling, camping, and other outdoor activities. Casey loved to be in nature to quiet the soul and clear the mind. Through various activities and generous donations, The Foundation is able to offer financial help to these kids in addition to camp scholarships.
The focus of the website is to raise awareness for The Casey Saunders Foundation, collect donations, and showcase any upcoming events for The Foundation. This past spring, they hosted an event at Steel Wheels in the Central West End and plan to host several more fundraisers and activities in the future.
Coming up this weekend, Saturday, August 11, Trailnet and The Casey Saunders Foundation are teaming up to sponsor its first ever Bike Rally for kids ages 3 to 14 during the St. Louis Classic. They will learn safety tips from expert cyclists, receive a bike and helmet check from trained mechanics, learn rules of the road, and compete for prizes. Stop by their bright green tent to learn more about Being Like Casey!
